Intelligence in Nature

If you don’t know Jeremy Narby, you should.

He’s a “diplomat between two systems of knowledge.”

Narby as born in Montreal in 1959 and grew up in Canada and Switzerland.

He studied history at the University of Canterbury and received a doctorate in anthropology from Stanford University.

Narby spent several years living with the Ashaninca in the Peruvian Amazon cataloging their understanding and use of the plants in their forest environment. He then compared what he learned to the cutting edge of biology and ecology.

In the process, he discovered that “traditional” ways of thinking about nature have achieved understandings that science is only just catching up to now.

Since 1989, he’s led Amazonian initiatives for Nouvelle Planète in Switzerland

Books by Jeremy Narby:

* The Cosmic Serpent: DNA and the Origins of Knowledge

* Intelligence in Nature

* The Psychotropic Mind: The World according to Ayahuasca, Iboga, and Shamanism

This longer talk below was delivered at the 13th Annual International Bioethics Forum held in 2014 in Madison, Wisconsin
